Brisbane Man Charged With Foreign Bribery Over $90,000 Transfer Linked to Bangladesh Investigation

A Brisbane man, Awlad Hossain, has been arrested by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and charged with allegedly bribing a foreign public official after approximately $90,000 was transferred to contacts in Bangladesh.

The charges are connected to an ongoing investigation into the suspected murder of his estranged wife, Rehana Parvin, a dual Australian-Bangladeshi citizen whose body was found in Bangladesh in 2024.

According to the AFP, the case marks the first time the agency has charged an individual with foreign bribery for personal advantage. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment if convicted.

The case remains subject to the Australian legal process, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
